Carnival CelebrateFreedom More Than A Hashtag
Later this week, fly to Texas for a special charity event at the Port of Galveston before exploring the city then sailing recently remodeled Carnival Freedom. Honoring military families, a pierside event features an outdoor concert with country music’s Martina McBride, a donation to Operation Homefront and a day of onboard fun and activities for servicemembers and their families.
To commemorate Carnival Freedom’s Texas debut, Carnival Cruise Line has partnered with Operation Homefront to honor military families; those who have helped insure our freedom through their service and sacrifice. During the event, country superstar Martina McBride will perform, Operation Homefront will benefit from a $100,000 donation and military families will be welcomed on board for a day and evening of cocktails, dinner and entertainment.
If there is a familiar ring to all of this, that might come from our coverage of sister line Princess Cruises first Cruising For A Cause sailing honoring military veterans. On that sailing those who had served in the military as well as active duty military personnel were on board, raising over $600,000 for Operation Homefront and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
Galveston, More Than A Cruise Port
At the Galveston event, military families who registered through Operation Homefront will enjoy a full day and evening of fun aboard the 110,000-ton Carnival Freedom while it is in port, including overnight accommodations, meals, entertainment and activities, all compliments of Carnival Cruise Line.
Mixed in with all that we will be again touring Galveston, a wonderful place for a pre- or post-cruise stay in advance of sailing. Day trips in Galveston can include area landmarks like Galveston‘s grandest and best-known building, Bishop’s Palace or the Lone Star Flight Museum, both good choices as is a Port of Galveston harbour tour.
Carnival Freedom, More Than Your Average Cruise Ship
The major attraction of this trip though is Carnival Freedom herself. Recently undergoing a $70 million makeover, many of Fun Ship 2.0 product enhancements were added, including new family entertainment programming featuring Seuss at Sea, as well as the new Camp Ocean kids facilities.
Also added, the BlueIguana Cantina and Guy’s Burger Joint, developed in partnership with Food Network personality Guy Fieri, BlueIguana Tequila Bar and RedFrog Rum Bar, as well as the pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and the line’s Caribbean-inspired RedFrog Pub.
One Big Reason We Look Forward To The CelebrateFreedom Event
Of particular interest to us, Carnival Freedom is one of the ships testing Carnival’s new Social Media Package. Priced at a flat fee of $5 per day or $25 per voyage during the initial testing period, guests can enjoy unlimited use of popular apps or sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Snapchat and Pinterest.
Potentially better yet, the line is also piloting enhanced Internet access aboard Carnival Freedom, (along with Carnival Breeze and Carnival Sunshine) that dramatically increases bandwidth and speed, all at prices that are significantly lower than previous plans.
Stay tuned for live reports, as always.
