Windstar Cruises: Your Questions Answered
As I write this, we are in the British Virgin Islands visiting Virgin Gorda for the day with Windstar Cruises. Later today, the big event is a signature Windstar event: the Beach Barbecue. We’ll have that info for you shortly but first, let’s answer some reader questions.
We start with Roger C from Tulsa who asks “Tell me about the water sports platform on your ship. How does that work?”
The water sports platform is located at the back of the ship. From there, Windstar passengers can enjoy a variety of equipment, rafts, kayaks, canoes and more. All complimentary and also available on the day of the Beach Barbecue, so like two signature Windstar features right here.
As usual, Roger, your question begs more information than that though so yes, there are other signature features of Windstar Cruises that make them different than other cruise lines. Some are advertised and promoted, others are just the nature of the cruise line itself.
Ropes- Ships with sails have lots of things on deck we do not see on motor ships. These lines raise and lower the ship’s sails.
Cool Stuff For Photos- I like photos of sunrises and sunsets. Most often the ship is not in the shot. On Windstar, you want it to be.
Rain Is Your Friend- Rain and/or any sort of weather other than a clear day is often viewed as a negative thing to photographers. Not here. Genuine teak decking looks fabulous damp. It’s also way harder to slip and fall on.
Lots Of Nautical Stuff- All ship have these, on Windstar it is as though they are intentionally dressed to look nautical.
Things Look Different At Night- This was the first time I was ever in a tender at night and the first time to look back at the ship lit up at night. #Amazing
180° From Ordinary- What’s better than stopping at an iconic Caribbean bar? Doing it at night, drinks included and the proceeds of the event go to support the local economy which really needs help.
Photo Ops Plenty- As mentioned, I love sunrises and sunsets. Those of you who share this love + anyone wanting unique photos, one tip: have something to capture images with you at all times.
Sailing Stuff Means More- Travel on a ship with sails and you will feel guilty saying “We set sail…” about any ship without them forever. Now you know what that really means.
Lifetime Memories Captured- There are many unique places on the ship to do a selfie. I’m rather horrible at those so none of me…but that reminds me of a different question, this one from Deb V on Facebook.
” I’m sailing that ship, that same itinerary you are on in January. Will Eugene the bartender be on board?
Yep
While we’re on the subject of crew, a couple more to talk/brag about
Every day, early in the morning, five minutes after ordering, coffee arrives.
The Yacht Club is the place for coffee, a light snack
We’ll be back with more answers to more questions soon but this is beach day so how about a few more photos for now. Each of these brings a different story we will go deep inside later.
