Direct Flights Boost Cambodian Tourism

Cambodia and Vietnam agreed to increase direct flights between Hanoi and Siem Reap, home to Angkor Wat. Vietjet will start operating seven weekly flights, with each taking 1 hour 45 minutes. Cambodia expects more Vietnamese tourists and investors due to improved connectivity. Vietnamese visitors currently constitute 18.7% of all foreign arrivals in Cambodia. More flights could attract visitors from other countries who travel to Cambodia after Vietnam. Collaboration between government and private sector is needed to extend visitor stays.

Benefits:

  • Increased tourism and economic growth through visitor spending.
  • Enhanced accessibility to Cambodia for Vietnamese and other foreign visitors.
  • Facilitation of travel and transportation between the two countries.
  • Potential for further expansion of flight services between other cities.

Challenges:

  • Extending the stays of foreign visitors through improved marketing and diverse activities.
  • Ensuring effective collaboration between government and private sector stakeholders.

Outlook:

The increase in direct flights between Hanoi and Siem Reap is expected to significantly boost Cambodia’s tourism and investment sectors. With continued collaboration and strategic marketing, Cambodia can leverage this improved connectivity to attract even more visitors and further strengthen its position as a leading tourist destination in Southeast Asia.
