Hell’s Revenge Trail Designated A National Trail

The National Park Service has officially designated the legendary Hell’s Revenge Trail, just outside of Moab, as a National Trail, adding to the area’s allure for adventure seekers. Famous for its high-intensity off-roading, Hell’s Revenge offers breathtaking views of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, two gems in the National Park Service’s crown.

Moab Adventure Center, the premier hub for adventure experiences in the region, reports that its popular Hummer tours traverse this iconic 6.5-mile trail, which is nestled in the Sand Flats Recreation Area just minutes from downtown Moab.

“Hells Revenge combines the best of Moab’s rugged terrain, from thrilling slick rock climbs to petrified sand dunes and rock-crawling challenges,” says Patrick Bishoff, Land Tours Manager at Moab Adventure Center. “It’s an adrenaline-packed journey that our experienced drivers make perfect for all adventure levels.”

Bishoff adds that the trail offers some of the most spectacular scenery in the region, especially during the cooler spring and fall months when the snow-capped La Sal Mountains serve as a stunning backdrop to the red rock landscape.

Hell’s Revenge boasts many ominously named obstacles like Tip Over ChallengeHell’s GateDragon’s Tail and the infamous Hot Tubs—each offering its own unique thrill. “Our Hummer tours don’t traverse all of these more intense obstacles, but there is still plenty of excitement throughout the tour,” states Bishoff.

Moab Adventure Center’s custom-built Hummer H1 trucks are designed to handle the toughest obstacles on any terrain, making them the ideal vehicle to tackle Hell’s Revenge. “The slow-speed nature of rock crawling allows guests to fully take in the scenery while enjoying the exhilaration of near-vertical climbs and steep descents,” Bishoff explains. “Our guides provide plenty of opportunities to learn about the area’s history, geology, and, of course, the Hummer itself.”

Moab Adventure Center offers three distinct guided Hummer tours, available through November:

  • 2-Hour Moab Hummer Safari: The most popular off-road adventure in Moab, this tour immerses guests in the geological and historical significance of the region while overlooking Arches National Park and the Colorado River.
  • 4-Hour Grand Safari Hummer Adventure: This extended tour explores even more of Moab’s dramatic landscapes, offering sweeping vistas into the Moab Valley and beyond.
  • Sunset Safari Hummer Tour: A 3-hour adventure westward toward Canyonlands National Park, where guests watch the sun dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the rugged terrain.

For those who prefer to take the wheel themselves, Moab Adventure Center also offers Jeep rentals for self-guided exploration.
