Abercrombie & Kent’s Antarctica, South Georgia & the Falkland Islands is a Luxury Expedition Cruise. This series of A&K luxury travel is made up of expeditions to exotic and rarely explored locales, complete with shore excursions conducted by experts in local culture, history and ecology. To enable A&K guests to get the most out of the experience, the Antarctica product features a dedicated photography coach to help guests capture the dramatic and varied landscapes, active wildlife and icebergs.
“Most travellers come to Antarctica to claim their seventh continent, only to discover that it is the most stunning, life-changing destination on earth,” – Bob Simpson, Vice President of Luxury Expedition Cruising for Abercrombie & Kent.
Typically, photographers are drawn to Antarctica in the Austral summer by the long days, more than 20 hours of daylight. Pristine winter and spring snow and ice are attractions when the ice pack breaks up. Dramatic sunrises and sunsets come alive in a stunning experience of color and contrasts. A&K’s Antarctica, South Georgia & the Falkland Islands are also scheduled at the time of year when penguins are most active with nest building in full swing and chicks hatching.
Photo Coach Richard Harker specializes in wildlife and landscape photography. He addresses the concerns of both novice photographers using point-and-shoot cameras and those with more advanced Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras. Briefings cover the unique challenges of photographing in the changing light and weather conditions, as well as secrets to make landscape panoramas more dramatic, and how to photograph wildlife. Richard Harker is available on deck and on shore throughout the expedition to offer tips, along with individual one-on-one coaching to answer specific camera questions. A second wildlife photographer will be added to the Photography Expedition (Jan 16-Feb 1, 2018), a special-interest departure.
Getting ready for the expedition, guests can find tips on what to expect at: www.yourphotocoach.com and view images shot on previous journeys: www.richardharkerphotography.

A shipboard historian will share memorable tales from the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration with topics ranging from the practical (how to master your digital camera) to the personal (a first-hand account of overwintering on a remote sub-Antarctic island).
A&K’s Antarctica, South Georgia & the Falkland Islands (December 12 – 28, 2017 and January 16 – February 1, 2018) is seventeen days from $16,995 per person, double occupancy (regularly $20,995), which includes pre-cruise lodging in Buenos Aires and sightseeing, on-board lectures, twice-daily shore excursions, most drinks, and crew and staff gratuities.
