The Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) has opened an 825-square-foot observation deck, complete with a speaker system for air traffic communications, a 27-space paved parking lot, and an aviation-themed playground, transforming a previously simple grass and dirt area into a dedicated space for plane enthusiasts, fulfilling the airport’s goal of enhancing the viewing experience.

The $2.3 million project, which was announced in March 2024, was built along an unpaved area near the airport. The project, which made its debut this week, was a joint venture between land owner Manatee County and the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority.
