Carnival & Mexico to Launch New Apprenticeship

Carnival Cruise Line, a leader in the cruise industry, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with the Maritime and Port University of Mexico, solidifying its commitment to the Mexican market and maritime education. This collaboration marks Carnival’s first partnership with a maritime university in Mexico and its continued dedication to fostering talent in the industry.

The cornerstone of this partnership is a cadet program that provides students nearing the completion of their four-year program at the Maritime and Port University of Mexico with an invaluable opportunity. These cadets will embark on a 180-day apprenticeship aboard a Carnival Cruise Line ship during their final year of studies. This hands-on training program will seamlessly complement their academic knowledge, giving them real-world experience in the maritime industry.

Domenico Rognoni, Carnival Cruise Line’s chief marine officer, expressed his admiration for the caliber of the university’s curriculum and its alignment with Carnival’s core values. He emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “Carnival has been sailing to Mexican ports for more than 50 years, so by providing cadets from the Maritime and Port University of Mexico with the opportunity to work on board our ships, we are providing career opportunities and furthering strengthening our longstanding relationship.”

The Maritime and Port University of Mexico, established in 1972, boasts a rich maritime heritage and is responsible for training all of the country’s navy and merchant marine officers. With approximately 900 students across its three campuses, the university plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Mexico’s maritime sector.

Captain Alt. Manuel Gutierrez Gallardo, coordinator general of Mexican Ports and Merchant Marine, highlighted the significance of this agreement, emphasizing the shared understanding between the university and Carnival Cruise Line that education and tourism are crucial pillars for their respective progress.

This partnership is not an isolated effort by Carnival Cruise Line. The company has established similar programs with universities and organizations worldwide, showcasing its unwavering commitment to supporting the professional development of students aspiring to enter the maritime industry.

This collaboration between Carnival Cruise Line and the Maritime and Port University of Mexico represents a significant step forward in fostering talent and strengthening ties within the Mexican maritime community. By providing cadets with practical experience and career opportunities, Carnival is investing in the future of the industry and solidifying its position as a leader in both the cruise and maritime sectors.
