Climate Change: We Really Are Doomed

Not all that long ago, climate change was a rather far off threat we would probably not live to see. Urgent calls to action from the world of science were given attention when convenient. The economics of saving the planet was an expense of little interest to business. Climate watchers said we needed to change or we were going to be in big trouble. Still, in everyday life, we were fine. Until we weren’t.

For the last month or so, I have been reading daily print copies of four newspapers; the New York Times, Orlando Sentinel, Wall Street Journal and USA Today. The plan is to compare what is in print to other ways of keeping up with the news.

It did not take long to notice some commonality in coverage, regardless of the delivery method. Big stories are detailed from a number of angles. Every day, all four publications take a deep dive into trending topics. But also daily, in one paper or another, more bona fide proof that climate change is happening right now. This is no far-off thought of a future world, this is now. Basically, we are doomed.
