Cunard Honors 80th Anniversary Of D-Day
Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 arrived in New York on May 23, 2024, carrying the Eternal Flame from the tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
A ceremony honoring the occasion was held onboard with dignitaries and WWII veterans. The flame was collected on May 8 and carried by young French ambassadors from Paris to Cherbourg, then Portsmouth, before crossing the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2. The flame will be laid at Arlington Cemetery on May 24 and burn until June 6, 2024.
