Hapag-Lloyd Completes Epic Antarctic Expedition

The HANSEATIC inspiration, from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has successfully completed a 32-day semi-circumnavigation of Antarctica, journeying from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Christchurch, New Zealand, from January 28-March 2, 2025. Guests experienced polar history up close, following the routes of legendary explorers while encountering rare wildlife in exceptional weather.

After a calm crossing of the Drake Passage, the expedition ship reached the South Shetland Islands, Antarctic Peninsula, and several other remote regions, including the Ross Sea and Peter the First Island. Highlights included the rare landing at Cape Bird, the visit to Shackleton’s hut on his birthday, and the sight of Emperor Penguins in the Ross Sea.

The HANSEATIC inspiration’s final stop was Christchurch on March 2. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced the next semi-circumnavigation in 2027, aboard her sister ship the HANSEATIC spirit, from Ushuaia to Christchurch, running from February 1-March 5, 2027.
