Helpful Security Tips For Travelers
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects to screen more than 14 million passengers during the Labor Day holiday weekend from Sept. 1, 2023 through Sept. 6, 2023. The busiest day is projected to be Sept. 1, 2023, when TSA expects to screen over 2.7 million travelers passing through security checkpoints.
The agency has screened about 227.5 million passengers since Memorial Day weekend, an average of 2.5 million per day. Travel volumes during this summer travel period are higher than 2019 during the same summer travel period, marking the busiest summer travel period on record.
TSA recommends:
- Arrive two hours early for their flight to allow for adequate time to park their car, check bags, and go through security screening.
- Be aware of the TSA’s liquids rule, which limits the amount of liquids, gels, and aerosols that can be carried in carry-on bags.
- Children under 12 are exempt from the liquids rule, but they must still remove their shoes and belts at the security checkpoint.
- Travelers with disabilities or medical conditions should contact TSA Cares 72 hours prior to traveling to request special accommodations.
- Travelers who have TSA PreCheck can expect shorter wait times at the security checkpoint.
- The TSA is also urging travelers to monitor for weather impacts on their travel plans due to Hurricane Idalia.
- Pack light to avoid having to check bags.
- Wear shoes that are easy to remove at the security checkpoint.
- Bring a copy of your boarding pass and identification with you.
- Be patient and understanding with the TSA officers. They are working hard to keep you safe.
