Holland America Expands Alaska Up Close
Holland America Line is offering guests on Alaska cruises an even more immersive experience in 2023. The line is adding new facets to its “Alaska Up Close” program, including:
- New cocktails featuring authentic glacier ice. The ice is harvested by state permit and prepared to the highest standard under Alaskan authority. Guests can enjoy cocktails like the Juneau Gin & Tonic, Alaska’s Blue Ice, and Blue Iceberg.
- A new Alaska-themed brunch. The brunch features dishes made with fresh, local ingredients, such as Alaskan Blueberry Pancakes, Salmon & Potato Chowder, and Kodiak Steak and Egg Skillet.
- Huna Native presentations. During the stay in Juneau, guests can learn about the history of the Tlingit people from a Native Interpreter in traditional dress.
- Wildlife experts and park rangers. Guests can meet with wildlife experts on deck to go in search of animals like humpback whales, orcas, bald eagles, moose, sea otters, caribou, black and grizzly bears, Dall’s porpoise, and more.
- A Wildlife Spotting Guide. The guide points out the native animals found along the cruise route and includes a map with the best places to spot each species.
- A presentation by The Alaska Raptor Center. Hosted by the wildlife expert, one of the center’s Avian Care Specialists comes aboard with a raptor (eagle, hawk, owl, etc.) to share insights about Alaska’s majestic birds.
- A fundraising walk for Alaska’s Parks. Guests can donate $25 to participate in a non-competitive 5k fundraising walk aboard every sailing.
These new experiences are designed to help guests learn more about Alaska’s culture, history, and wildlife. They are sure to make for a more memorable and enriching cruise vacation.
