Business is good at Florida’s Port Canaveral which continues to grow and offer more for cruise travelers.   A two-story, 188,514-square-foot terminal building and accompanying four-story, 1,000-car covered and secure garage opened recently after a year of construction.  Unique to new Cruise Terminal 1, its strategic location on the south side of Port Canaveral will allow passengers and crew to walk to nearby dining and entertainment options.

The Cove Marketplace,  locally called “The Cove”, has been popular with locals for quite some time as an open-air market featuring local arts, crafts and products.   Now, the Cove is on the fast track to become a Central Florida restaurant and retail premier destination – not only for locals, but for the millions of cruise passengers that embark, disembark or call at Port Canaveral. The terminal building and parking were designed to get passengers onto the ship within six to eight minutes from the time they park their cars at a cost of over $60 million.

 

Also interesting, the work that went into designing and building Exploration Tower, a recent addition to the new Port Canaveral Welcome Center. Using Firestone Building Products, architects created  a building that evokes the images of a rocket ready to launch, surfboard in the sand, a ship’s hull and the shimmering sea. The Port Canaveral Welcome Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida is a beautiful, unique and highly complex structure that was designed to withstand the harsh environmental realities that come with proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, officially opened November 4, 2013 as part of the Canaveral Port Authority’s 60th anniversary celebration.
