Princess Adds New Top Deck Feature
Princess Cruises is adding a new top-deck adventure ride called the Rollglider to its new class of ship, the Sun Princess. The Rollglider is a hybrid of a zipline and a roller coaster, and it will allow passengers to soar along an overhead track at speeds of up to 11 mph. The ride is located in the Park19 space, which also features a two-deck obstacle course, a ropes course, a 360-degree observation deck, and other activities.
The Sun Princess is the first of the cruise line’s new Sphere class of ships, and it is the largest in the fleet. The ship has a capacity of 4,314 passengers and will run on liquefied natural gas. It is scheduled to debut in 2024 and will sail from Port Everglades in Florida.
The Rollglider is not the only new feature on the Sun Princess. The ship also has a youth and teen center with dedicated spaces for children of different ages, as well as a variety of other activities, such as ping-pong, shuffleboard, and a sports court.
The Sun Princess is the third ship to bear the name Sun Princess. The first Sun Princess sailed from 1974 to 1988, and the second Sun Princess sailed from 1995 to 2020. The new Sun Princess is scheduled to be joined by a sister ship in spring 2025.
