Viking Longships Christening 2016: The Ships
Jumping ahead a bit on our coverage of the Viking Longships Christening 2016, we have the names of the six new Viking Longships that will be christened on March 1, 2016 in Amsterdam. Better yet, we have detailed information on the ships, their itineraries and more. Let’s jump right in.
Sailing The Rhine River
New Viking Longship Tialfi and New Viking Longship Alruna will sail the Rhine Getaway itinerary. The 8 day sailing will take Viking passengers to Germany where they will sail past castles, touring both Marksburg Castle and the ruins of Heidelberg Castle. Stoping in Cologne, the jewel of the Rhine, with its awe-inspiring Dom, they will witness the lush landscape of the Black Forest region and explore Holland’s famous windmills and waterworks plus visit the multicultural Strasbourg in France.
Sailing The River Danube
New Viking Longship Egil will sail three different itineraries, two on the River Danube and one on the Rhine River
- Bavaria To Budapest sails for 10 days from Nuremberg to Budapest (or reverse)
- The Grand European Tour sails for 15 days from Amsterdam to Budapest (or reverse)
- Rhine Getaway takes Viking Longship Egil to the Rhine River for an 8-day sailing from Amsterdam to Basel
New Viking Longship Vilhjalm will sail the Danube Waltz itinerary from Budapest to Passau

Sailing In France
New Viking Longship Kadlin and New Viking Longship Rolf will sail the popular Paris & The Heart Of Normandy itinerary, eight days round-trip Paris. Unique to this itinerary, travelers will combine the magic of Paris with the beauty of Frances Norman countryside. They will experience history firsthand at the Normandy beaches, site of the Allied invasion on D-Day in 1944. They will enjoy the Gothic architecture of Rouen, see where Joan of Arc was tried and executed, lose themselves in the exquisite gardens of Giverny and more.
