Viking Plans 10 More Ocean Ships By 2030
Viking Ocean Cruises plans to add 10 new ocean ships by 2030, some of which will be deployed in China. The new ships will be slightly larger than the current fleet, but will still carry under 1,000 passengers each.
The company has already taken delivery of 16 new vessels during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the ocean ships Viking Venus, Viking Mars, and Viking Neptune, the 378-passenger expedition pair, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, and 10 river vessels.
Viking also has 14 river newbuilds planned, including three under construction for Egypt and a one-time charter under construction for the Mekong. In 2022, Viking matched 2019’s $3 billion in ticket revenue with 470,000 passengers carried. So far in 2023, Viking’s ocean bookings are up 53% in 2019 while river bookings are up 12%. Overall, Viking is on a strong track for recovery from the pandemic.
Here are some additional details that I found interesting:
- Viking has a database of 52.5 million names, which gives them a strong lead in the cruise industry.
- Viking is committed to providing a high-quality experience for its passengers, and its new ships will be equipped with the latest amenities and technology.
- Viking is expanding into new markets, such as China, which will help them to grow their business in the years to come.
